Hello! And a warm welcome to the 2025 archive of Well Met. For the current, January 2026, issue, please click here [available from 1st Jan.].

The archive begins in April rather than January, because we launched on 1st April 2025. Issue no. 1 served as a test, as the editor, Felicity Teague, had forgotten how to create and publish a web page! Adam Ford of Bridge Digital UK had shown her how to do this while setting up her website in 2021, but four years later she wasn’t sure what was going to happen! Happily all went well, with the ever-affable John Claiborne Isbell having gamely agreed to be featured in the spirit of giving it a go. Come issue no. 2, we were joined by Michael R. Burch, Martin Elster and of course the illustrious Word-Bird, Fliss’s writing mascot and quite the poet in her own right. We also had the support of one A. D. Min (aka our friend Alek) from these early stages, happy to help with testing the site and running comms.

As the months continued, we were honoured to welcome more poets, with Julia Griffin, Susan McLean, Gail White, Melissa Balmain and Mark Blaeuer increasing our numbers through June to September. And the final three months of the year saw further growth, with Steven Kent, David Stephenson, Andrew Frisardi, Janet Kenny, Janice D. Soderling and Paul Burgess all coming on board.

When Well Met was first set up, it was as a showcase for metrical poetry, with a focus on recently published work. As the issues continued, however, we decided to broaden the scope to include work of any publication date. Sometimes it seems the world of poetry publishing moves at quite a rapid pace; for a lot of our poets, it has proved very enjoyable to reflect on work from many years ago. We’re also open to completely new poems.

Lately there have been a few enquiries about submissions. Our apprach to date has been simply to contact poets whose work we admire and who we feel might like to be featured. If you’re a metrical poetry person who is interested in joining in, you are welcome to use the Contact button of Fliss’s main site (here) to provide a little introduction, your bio, and up to three poems.
