So, here we are at the start of July, and the tiny team has recently emerged from our second heatwave of the year here in the UK. It has been wonderful to experience cooler temperatures for a few days! But now we hear that a third heatwave is on its way already. We’re thinking out to anyone else affected by the fiery furnace conditions. Stay safe, friends.
Aptly, this issue’s suggested theme, or ’prompt-if-you-want’, was Midsummer, inspiring some excellent offerings from our contributors. From America to the Mediterranean, New Zealand to the Nordic region, and to our local park, there’s much to appreciate in writing fairly filled with sunlight, even while we crank our office fan up another notch and festoon ourselves with an increasing amount of ice packs. Additionally, we have archaeology, blacksmithery, God of Dogs, a Man of Steel, Prince, the red planet, and a trip to the zoo, why not. There’s a lot to enjoy!
Overall the issue has a lot of light, and in closing we wish to light a little candle for the loss of two poets over the past month, Chris O’Carroll and Bill Greenwell. We knew neither well, but we understand that many of our contributors did, so we’d like to extend our condolences to you all, as well as to Chris and Bill’s family and friends.
Finally, our thanks as always to all our contributors, and to our readers as usual. We wish you a marvellous Midsummer, and all being well we shall return in August, having taken up residence in our local lake if the heat holds!
