Well Met
June 2026
Happy 1st June to all! This month, the tiny team greets our readers in something of a swoon, as we’re just emerging from a heatwave in our part of the world. We’re aware the heat is lingering across other countries, so this issue is accompanied by virtual ice creams, ice packs, even ice vests for those in need!
Very aptly, as it happened, our prompt-if-you-want for June was ‘Start of Summer’, and many of our contributors provided poetry along these lines. The prompt, as its name suggests, is never essential; we’re open to all sorts of themes! So we start with an emphatic nod to shorts weather before moving through the swinging doors of a saloon to encounter a cheerful cuckoo, a meditation on mood, hotel housekeeping, gloriously amorous pigeons, a splendid cathedral, a special road trip, a blast of heat followed by refreshing fog, two very varying writings on weddings, an unusual eagle, Persian-cat perfection, and a train ride! Finally, there’s a June loon and a hot date. Hooray!
Thousand thanks to all our contributors this month! We welcome back Andrew, David, Ethan, Gail, Janet, Janice, John, Mark, Melissa, Mike, Paul, Steven, Susan and of course our mascot Word-Bird. And for the first time we’re delighted to feature Maryann Corbett and Donald Mace Willams! Please click on any of the names below to access each poet’s page; at the bottom of each page are ‘Hops’ that can be used to move quickly and easily through the issue.
...and Word-Bird!
And, as always, many thanks to all our readers; we‘re very grateful for your encouragement!
Enjoy June!
