To celebrate the Queen’s amazing reign of seventy years,
the neighbourhood is partying, with music, speeches, cheers!
Our bunting’s up and dancing in its red and white and blue;
we’ve tables laid with lemon trifles. Yummy, yellow goo!
We have a guest of honour here. I wonder, can you guess?
You’re right, it’s not Her Majesty, but someone queenly, yes!
She’s little, but she’s regal in the way she moves and speaks.
She likes to stare at everyone, and when she talks, she squeaks…
It’s Queenie! She is here to greet us, ginger, cream and grand.
Her hair is shining in the sun. She waves a tiny hand.
She wears a crown, an English daisy, smiles so graciously,
then wees all over me. Oh, Queenie. Happy Jubilee!

W.-B.’s notes: “It is my pleasure to present a poem from our guinea pig portfolio, and one about such a delightful lady too. Queenie may have lived just 5 years and 4 months, but during that time she was loved by all who came to know her. Also known as Philosopher-Queenie, she engaged so many through her practical approach to life. We are grateful to Editor Jonathan Humble for publishing the poem in The Dirigible Balloon, together with the above photograph.“

We are indeed grateful, W.-B. Dear guineas do not live long, but the love they inspire is immeasurable. It was a joy to write this poem and add it to the guinea pig portfolio, which contains so many memories. We have numerous photos and videos too!

We end with squeaks of thanks to all the poets who kindly agreed to be featured in this issue, and to all our readers. We appreciate the messages of support we continue to receive and hope you will join us for our June issue. Until then, tiny hand waves from guinea pigs everywhere!
